After five deeply restorative months in Saint Lucia and a gentle pause since returning to London in early June, I’m finally settling back into rhythm, and reconnecting with you.

Saint Lucia, with its vibrant colours, healing rhythms, and nourishing fruit, held me beautifully once again. And while the shift back to city life brings its own kind of grounding, change even when  welcome can unsettle the nervous system.

That’s why I lean into my breath.

As I often say: Everything you have is within you now. And that begins with your breath

Breathwork isn’t just another wellness tool, it’s a return to the body’s wisdom.

It helps you anchor, release, restore, and reconnect with the present moment. Whether I’m centring myself before a live interview, settling after travel, or simply carving out stillness in a busy day, conscious breath is my go-to practice. Even a few minutes can calm the nervous system and realign your energy.

In next week’s newsletter, I’ll be sharing highlights and photos from my time in Saint Lucia, the best of the season. But for now, as I continue to ground myself back in London life, I invite you to pause… and just breathe.

Why Breathwork Matters

1. Calms the Nervous System

Slow, conscious breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system — your rest-and-digest mode. It lowers cortisol levels, reduces anxiety, and helps regulate heart rate and blood pressure. Even a few minutes of deep breathing can shift you from stress to calm.

2. Improves Oxygenation

Most people breathe shallowly, which means the body isn’t getting the full oxygen it needs. Breathwork increases oxygen supply to your cells, boosting energy, improving mental focus, and supporting organ function.

3. Releases Tension and Trauma

Emotions often get “stored” in the body. Breathwork helps to release stuck emotions and muscular tension — especially in the chest, diaphragm, and abdomen — promoting emotional clarity and a greater sense of peace.

4. Enhances Digestion

Conscious breathing supports digestion by calming the gut-brain connection. Stress shuts down digestion; breathing deeply tells your body it’s safe to rest and digest.

5. Increases Self-Awareness

Breath is the bridge between the conscious and subconscious mind. Through breathwork, we become more present, more in tune with how we feel, and more connected to ourselves.

6. Supports Detoxification

70% of the body’s detox is through the lungs. Proper breathing supports the lymphatic system and helps release carbon dioxide and other metabolic waste.

🧘‍♀️ Simple Breath Practice to Start: Box Breathing

This technique is easy, calming, and can be done anywhere:

  • Inhale for 4 counts
  • Hold for 4 counts
  • Exhale for 4 counts
  • Hold for 4 counts

Repeat for 2–5 minutes.

It’s a favourite among athletes, meditators, and wellness practices for staying calm under pressure.
