I always associate the phrase Salt of the Earth with an authenticity of self – being true to who you are. But here I was at a ladies’ fun lunch, looking very different than usual!

This wonderful annual event supports Amy’s Gift to St. Lucia, a charity founded in 2014 in memory of Amy Winehouse, who loved visiting St. Lucia. The charity provides musical instruments and classes for a local school called Dunnottar School and a Boys Training Centre in Gros Islet, enriching lives through music.

Each year, they host a fun-themed lunch, and this time, it was all about The Oscars.

Our team recreated the famous poker scene from Casino Royale, and I played the role of presenter and casino guest. Most of my friends barely recognised me in my wig! They told me it made me look years younger and that I should wear my hair like that more often. Flattered by the compliments, I booked a hair appointment for a wash and blow-dry. For a fleeting moment, I considered straightening and colouring it again, but then I remembered – I had done that for over a decade, and that just isn’t me anymore.

Over the past two years, I’ve embraced my natural grey curls, and my hair has thanked me for it! I’d forgotten just how much damage dyeing and straightening had done – weakening, drying, and thinning my hair. Now, it’s thick, healthy, and vibrant, all because I stopped fighting against nature and started working with it. I know it’s not an easy decision to go grey. And if I ever feel like changing things up, that’s what wigs and makeup are for!
